Choosing the Right Season and Destination for Your Trip

Weather, crowds and prices all change through the year. A few questions help you pick the right time and place.
The same destination can feel like two different places depending on when you visit. Weather, crowds, opening hours and prices all change through the year, so choosing the season is as important as choosing the place.
Start with what you want to do. If you want to swim and relax, look at the months when the sea is warm and the weather is settled. If you want to walk through old cities and visit museums, mild months are usually more comfortable than very hot or very cold ones. For desert and archaeological sites, early morning and late afternoon are the pleasant hours in warm weather.
Think about school holidays and public holidays at home and at the destination. These are popular times, so flights and hotels fill earlier and prices are often higher. If your dates are flexible, travelling just before or after a busy period can give you more choice and a calmer experience.
Do not forget the practical side: the flight time, the time difference, the local currency, and whether the destination needs a visa for your nationality. A closer destination can be a better fit for a short break, while a longer trip is worth a longer flight.
